Hello ladies, how are you? I hope you have lots of lemonade available instead of lemons in this incredible time. And if you lack the recipes like me then please come along for the ride to find them. 🙂
Being mindful can create action
Last week, I pondered why we can’t simply be without achieving anything. I shared some of my thoughts about Mindfulness something I am practising for a couple of years. It certainly has changed my life for the better but there are some things left that I haven’t figured out yet. “Simply being” helps me to accept myself and my situation but that doesn’t mean I need to leave things that do not serve me anymore as they are. It doesn’t mean I can’t change, or can’t change my situation.
In fact, mindfulness meditation helps me to figure out what the lemons are in my life and thus I can also figure out ways of changing them. Or so I hope. Because sometimes I feel all is too late. I see younger women than me seemingly having figured it all out and I still haven’t found my calling. I feel like I am bumbling through life with no rhyme nor reason. And I wonder if I am the only one.
But 5-year plans are not my thing
Some years ago, I had a yearly planner that encouraged its users to set intentions for the coming year in different areas of their life. There were intention areas for
- Family & Friends
I liked the idea to sit at the beginning of the year and ponder where I am in my life and where I want to go in the coming year. Some life coaches and some planning approaches suggest making a 5 year, 1 year and monthly goal plan so that what you want to achieve does not feel too much at once. However, I never could get my head around the 5-year planning. One year fair enough. But my life has often changed so drastically that any 5-year plans could be binned on a regular basis. So why make the effort?
One of my life lemons
This meant I developed the belief that life is constant change and you better stay flexible to stay on top of things. But it also seems to mean, that I can’t stick with goals I want to achieve. There is this inner force that seems to block any regular steps towards things I want to achieve. And that is one of my life lemons:
Not sticking with goals and routines to get to them.
However, on the other hand, I think it is quite an achievement to see where the lemons in life are so that I can find a recipe for it. If you are still reading this post I assume you are looking for your lemonade recipes too. But are you clear on your life’s lemons? Do you know exactly what it is that you feel needs improving?
Maybe you followed my invitation to try out mindfulness or simply taking a moment each day to sit with a cup of your favourite hot beverage and just be. Maybe that brought you to the points that are not quite right in your life.
No professionals needed
You might think that you need a counsellor or life coach to learn which actions to take to change those points. And that there is no way you can afford to have either help. But I believe we can figure out a lot of what is good for us by ourselves. I believe that we are a little brainwashed into thinking that we are not capable of taking the right action for our happiness without the help of someone else. That you need a “professional” and need to spend a lot of money to get where you want to be.
And yes, there are situations where you need that help: if you live with depression or anxiety or have experienced trauma in one way or another then you certainly need professional help. And you should find a way to get it. However, often the professionals only give you pointers and you still need to decide and take action when they are not around. I like to encourage you to take sovereignty over your life and decide and take these actions. I believe, we have an inner voice that tells us what is good for us but we haven’t been taught to listen to this voice. And that is one reason why we don’t have the lemonade recipes for the lemons in our lives.
FREE download to explore your life lemons and possible solutions
I have created a download that allows you to explore the lemons in your life and possible solutions. And you can get it here for free:
This download is an invitation to check in with the state of your life. All is well? Brilliant. Celebrate this achievement. You deserve it.
You need to change things? Then ponder solutions and let the whole thing sit for a while. In my experience, solutions need time to develop and to grow. Jumping directly into action doesn’t always give you the whole picture.
How to use the life-lemons download
I suggest you print the download out and give yourself some “me-time” to brainstorm all the areas of your life. Write your lemons and possible solutions down in long-hand. Writing long-hand has a deeper effect than simply typing. It seems to connect more with your brain and thus create more possible change even if you let your solutions sit for some time.
Yes, there is the danger that you forget about your plans in life’s challenges. However, I’ve learned that necessary change will always come back to you. You are not able to escape it or forget about it. Once you have written down in longhand where you want to go you have a visible pointer that always brings you back to action. And I believe you can do it.
If you feel like diving deeper into making a change with a different method, I suggest you check out Ena’s post “Bullet Journal for Self-Improvement” at “Pretty, Plus and Proud” or find courage to make a change with Jen Sincero’s book “You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life“.
Next week, I share with you some more of my lemons and my ideas for solutions.
